Ski / Snowboard Development

A day on the slopes can be a day of breathtaking beauty, personal challenge and exhilaration. Just about anyone can learn to ski or ride. It doesn't take strength or youth - just desire. It is one of the quickest and most rewarding things you will ever do and you can enjoy it for a lifetime.
Our 120 instructor team is the largest in the region. Two were selected by ski magazine as 1 of the top 100 in the USA and 1 of the top 7 in the Midwest. Click on and view our beginner lesson at the top of the screen before you come - It will enhance your snow skills.

Our larger learning area has ideal slopes serviced by a 175-foot conveyor lift and a chairlift, to make the trip up the slope much easier . We use shorter, shaped skis and softer snowboards. Our lessons are 1-1/2 hours (a half hour longer than most resorts) and we use a tested lesson system that accelerates learning and confidence. The learning area graduates from level to an easy 20% grade which is the maximum slope of our seven easiest all mountain trails. Learn to ski in a day - guaranteed. Several great offers are available: Each new skier or rider can progress at their own speed.

BEGINNER SPECIAL - A GREAT WAY TO START!

This inexpensive program provides (age 9 or over) with a lift ticket, rental equipment and a 1-1/2 hour lesson on the Beginner Slope with an option to upgrade to an all area lift ticket for an additional $18 (when you can ski or ride a 20% grade under control)

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private Lessons are 1 hour long and start at the customers convenience. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling Sundown at 563-556-6676 (extension 112). When purchasing your Lift Ticket let the cashier know you either have a reservation or would like to take a private lesson. Our Ski School director will meet with you and discuss your needs before assigning an instructor.

5 WEEK LEARN-TO-SKI OR RIDE PROGRAMS

This very affordable program for anyone age 9 or older at any ability level. The skill improvement sessions are 1-1/2 hours long and are held once a week on the same day for 5 consecutive weeks. You can pick up your lift tickets and rentals (if needed) at the Group Office in the Mountaintop building after 4:30. Starting dates for the 5 sessions are:

REGISTRATIONS ARE ACCEPTED ON A FIRST COME BASIS. Class sizes will be limited. We reserve the right to cancel two days prior to the start of the program due to the lack of participation. Reservations and payment must be made at least one week prior to the start of the program.

 3 WEEK LEARN-TO-SKI OR RIDE PROGRAMS

SKIWEE KIDS PARK 4 WEEK LEARN-TO-SKI OR SNOWBOARD PROGRAM

Especially designed for children 4 to11 years of age. Classes are small and give attention to each child's individual needs. SKIwee Kids Park instructors will meet with parent and child before each session to answer any questions. If all four lessons are attended - students receive a free night of skiing or boarding with rental. And that isn't all - students also receive a complimentary membership in the Sundown Mountain Kid's Club which will allow them to ski or board on Sundays or Thursdays after 2 p.m. with a reduced cost for lift ticket and rental. ADAPTIVE SKIING PROGRAM

"Sundown has programs for the blind and physically challenged. We offer a variety of specialized equipment along with lessons tailored to the needs of the skier. Our goal is to help the skier achieve the greatest independence and adventure that adaptive skiing has to offer."
